Day 281

So far, the Braves have not looked so hot in the post-season... C'mon, Braves!

October 2, 2010

Day 275

Today was the infamous OU / TX "Red River Rivalry" football game. Candace and her daughter (plus a friend) came over to watch it with us. Despite the fact that the Sooners won, Candace was a true longhorn fan and still had her horns up after the game:

Day 257

Patrick had more softball games tonight, and it was such a nice night that I decided to go ahead and stay for the 9:00 game when I had only planned on seeing the 7:00 game. (I might regret that decision tomorrow, but I had a good time. :) ) Here's the team warming up for the second game. They just looked so "baseball camp-y" that I had to get a picture:

Can you find Patrick? Also, between games, we watched another team (who we played last week and apparently found hilarious). This team has a policy, if you will, that if someone strikes out, they have to wear a pink sparkly skirt until the next person strikes out. There was some controversy tonight about whether they would be allowed to actually wear the skirt on the field, but once it was resolved, the rightful recipient was SO proud of himself. Patrick was bold enough to go into the team's dugout and get a close-up shot.

The NWC team is looking for something to top this antic... stay tuned to see if something "better" materializes in the weeks to come!

Day 250

Tonight began fall softball for Patrick. Instead of playing church league, he's playing in an open league with some of his friends and colleagues from the National Weather Center. On my way to the first game, I caught this beautiful sunset:

Then, I forgot to get a shot of Patrick playing because I was organizing the T-shirt box. (More about the T-shirts later.) So, I caught him stretching his shoulder between games instead:

Day 247

In honor of the first day of college football season (at least if you're a Razorback or Sooner fan), we had "football food" today. I put cookies in the oven just before lunch:

Then, there was the pre-game chips and salsa snack:

And then, I did another George Foreman grill hamburger for dinner. (The green beans were an attempt to offset everything else I'd eaten today. :) )

Happy Gameday, Wooooooo Pig Sooie, and Boomer Sooner!

Day 244

Isn't it hard to believe that 1) It's already September, and 2) This blog is 2/3 of the way finished? Crazy!

Yesterday, I noticed that the OU volleyball team was playing UCA tonight. Yes, you read that right. Little 'ole UCA, my alma mater, was venturing into the Big 12 (or however many teams it is now). So, since I was wanting to go to a volleyball match before I left OU, I figured this was just the one! My good friend and sporting-event-buddy Candace came with me. She even (accidentally) wore purple today! Here we are before the match began:

And of course, I was sporting my UCA shirt, which I dug out of a storage bin for just this purpose:

We left during the 3rd set because OU was up 2-0, and it looked like they were going to put it away in the 3rd. Apparently, they didn't, because the OU sports website says that OU won the match 3-1, not 3-0! Drama! Anyway, it was a good effort by the Sugar Bears, and it was fun to see a bit of UCA purple again!

Day 210

Today was such a whirlwind, and now that it's gotten so late, I don't have the energy to go through it all. The two main highlights: My students did their Rube Goldberg project presentations this afternoon, and I got a couple of aerial shots from the balcony over the workshop floor. (Since I haven't asked permission to use these shots, I won't include them in this post - but trust me that the projects were SO cool!!!) The other highlight of today was that Patrick and I finally made it to an Oklahoma City Redhawks (AAA baseball) game together. One of his advisors went with us, and we had a good time (except that I was SO tired from the past few weeks, I could barely keep my eyes open for parts of it). Here's the view from our seats:

Isn't the sky beautiful? It was a bit warm when we got there, and a bit muggy throughout, but otherwise, it was a nice night for baseball! Here's a shot toward the outfield (and Dr. Kloesel's feet!):

Day 182

Another softball night tonight. Fortunately, the weather was GORGEOUS! Unfortunately, I only had my cell phone camera with me, so the quality isn't so great.

Patrick Pitching.

Patrick's Up to Bat!

Despite the fact that we won both games (and on run rules, no less!), this was sunset was the real star tonight! So beautiful!

Day 171

The Sooner Baseball team played in their first game of this year's College World Series today. After a combined 6 hours of rain delays, they beat South Carolina 4-3! Patrick and I busted out our OU baseball shirts today in support of the team. Too bad Arkansas didn't make it to Omaha this year!

Day 158

I present to you Patrick's injury from Thursday's softball game. The thing that amazes me is not the scabby part (which has healed considerably in the past few days) but the enormous blue and purple bruise which has formed around the wound slowly but surely. He also has a knee wound and a sore chest / back to complete the first-injury-of-the-season package. But, he got the guy out... ;)

Day 154

A few pictures from Patrick's church-league softball games tonight:

Getting ready to go up to bat

Getting ready to pitch

Finally captured a pitch in motion!

Like the green socks?

Day 115

Patrick and I finally got to see a Braves game on TV for the 2010 season. We were both working while it was on, but at least I had a good reason to bust out my Brian McCann shirt! C'mon Braves! Beat those Mets! :)

Day 91

OU baseball tonight!  Too bad Texas won...

Day 51

Patrick and I went to the OU Club Hockey match tonight with Candace and her daughter.  I always love to watch the Zamboni resurface the ice before play:

Caught a faceoff during the first period:

I couldn't get a good shot of the scoreboard at the end, but OU won 4-2 over the University of Central Oklahoma!  :)

Day 16

Patrick and I were graciously offered two tickets for today's men's Razorback Basketball game vs. Alabama.  We had such a good time at the game (and just being on the U of A campus in general).  Here's a shot of the floor during a timeout:

Love the Razorback in the middle -- it feels so much like home!  :)  And, there was more good news -- the Hogs won!  Woooooo Pig Sooie!  :)  Here's the final scoreboard:

Day 8

Went with Candace, her daughter, and the Holt family to the OU Women's Gymnastics meet tonight against Florida.  Here's a picture of the team just before the awards "ceremony" started:

(Thanks to Candace for taking that one!)  Good news for all who dislike Florida or like OU - OU won!  :)  As they say here in Oklahoma, Boomer Sooner!

Day 2

Wooooooo Pig Sooie!  Razorbacks win the Liberty Bowl!
